Birthday Weekend Walk (Rodeo to Rodeo Beach via Bobcat trail)

Such was day two of the birthday festivities 2014 - We had accidentally headed into San Francisco instead of heading north toward home, and we fortuitously ended up on the Rodeo Ave exit - which was nothing but a dirt lot big enough for two cars.

Suspicious that we had accidentally located a trailhead, we went home and discovered our suspicions were correct! We had found a trailhead for a reasonable 4mi round-trip trek to Rodeo beach.

Of course, being the first of the summer season, we found ourselves surrounded by fog, as Kim brilliantly demonstrates in her best Vanah White impression (left).

more fog
Don't let him fool you; he wasn't really sleeping.

Rodeo beach: cold wind, colder water.

cuddly beach moments
On our return, the sun emerged, and it became quite warm.
Perhaps this fueled Malcolm's energetic head start.
We found these wild beauties on the way back.
We were happy to crest the hillside after a long ascent
and see this gorgeous sight.

Birthday Dinner

One of my favorite places to eat in the Bay are so far is Salito's in Sausalito. They have nice seafood options for not too much money and the service has been great each time we've been. And, of course, eating seafood overlooking the bay is a real treat. Every time I go here with Kim, I feel like we're living a pretty good life in California.

Malcolm got to enjoy the boats on the water. He spent several minutes before we left peering through the fence around the seating area and taking it all in.
As we left, we were amazed of this view from our parking spot. The fog rolled over this hillside, eventually engulfing a house above. We marveled at what it must be like to have overcast skies out of one window, and a beautiful sunny day on the bay peering out of another window.

A Taste of Berkeley

This marks the end of our successful foray into the annual Berkeley event. We sampled all kinds of food from various eateries. Kim even tried head cheese from the butcher shop. Kim loved the beauty shop with raw oysters and champagne. My favorite stop was the art gallery with biergarten. Malcolm loved the curly fries with house made ranch sauce.
